2014 Word for the Year

I’ve seen a lot lately in the blogosphere about our words for 2014. You know me, a usual skeptic to bandwagons....I first did a little research (aka I googled the heck out of that shiz!). And what I found...I liked!

The idea is that instead of setting a ridiculous amount of goals or unrealistic resolutions, you choose a word or two to focus on for the year! It’s kind of a way to put your energy into something and create your own results.
I’m not a fan of resolutions. I don’t make them and honestly, don’t hold too much into what people say about them. Now....I’m all about taking some time to look into the past year and think about what you want to do differently. I’m all for creating a ‘clean slate’ to begin the New Year with and setting up a plan of action for where you want the year to take you!

With that in mind, peeps, I jumped on that bandwagon like it was racing the MotoGP. Being that this is my first year with the #word2014, I decided to focus on only one word. One word to sum up where I wanted my energy and motivation to be headed. One word to lump all my goals together.

COMMITMENT.

Sound strange? It’s not actually. You see, last year I had plans and goals and a lot of motivation. Then I went of the rails somewhere. I got diagnosed with PPD and learnt to fight that battle and realized that things didn’t always happen exactly the way I planned them (and I lost that battle a couple of times). I let that defeat win.

But not in 2014! I want to focus on commitment in life.

iliketoquote.com
Commitment is defined as the act of binding yourself (intellectually or emotionally) to a course of action. Whoa....I really love that definition. I am binding myself. I am obligating myself. I am making something necessary! And the best part....to a course of action! In my mind....I am creating a focus of necessity!

Vince Lombardi once said that the quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.  It doesn’t matter what we are committing to, the point is that once we commit, how good it is relates to how much we’re in it. There is no half commitment. With commitment, we are either in or out. No excuses!

“Commitment is the enemy of resistance, for it is the serious promise to press on, to get up, no matter how many times you are knocked down.” –David McNally

So where am I focusing this commitment? How does the word commitment create goals in my life?

First of all, I am committed in my growth in Christ. I am committed to reading my Bible, praying and worshipping and attending church regularly. I am committed.

Secondly, I am committed in my marriage. I am committed to watching my words and actions. I am committed to praying for my husband and our marriage. I am committed to showing love. I am committed.

Thirdly, I am committed in my house. I am committed to developing a safe yet fun environment for my children. I am committed to creating memories. I am committed to establish routine and organization. I am committed to sticking to a budget. I am committed.

Lastly, I am committed to myself. I am committed to the improvement of me. I am committed to my health. I am committed to creating an active lifestyle. I am committed.

So, to kick off all this commitment, I’m asking you to join in! Last month, I stumbled upon a pin all about a 30 day plank challenge! One plank a day for 30 days....not too difficult!

I want my body back. I want to feel beautiful and sexy and like the way I look. But I always start out too big and end up bogged down by it all and depressed when I don’t meet my expectations.

For the rest of 2014, I’m going to propose to all of you a #30daychallenge every single month! It’s small actions that will take just a little of our time each day (because let’s be honest....it’s not like we moms have loads of time to spare!) but the challenge is going to be our commitment to it! Yep, committing with no excuses....no bowing out....no nothing!

Are you in? Will you join me for a #30daychallenge in February with #30daysofplanks? (Yes, I realize February is 28 days...it’s okay...the last two days will overlap with the first two days of the next challenge ;-))

Will I slip? Of course. Will I fall down? Absolutely. Do I expect these things to happen? NO! Because I am committed, I am not expecting the worst. I am focused on the positive and working towards that each and everyday.

Do you have a word or words for 2014? What are your expectations? Have you done this before? What were the outcomes?
