Conquering PPD: Step 1 Finding the Shift

I was discussing with a friend recently about depression and I’d realized that I hadn’t wrote anything about my....my....I don’t like the word battle because I don’t feel I’m battling. I mean, of course, I struggle and of course I attempt to overcome it, yet I just feel battle is too strong...to violent of a word. But alas I digress.

I haven’t spoken on PPD in quite a while is the point. So....we were discussing the beginning point. Not the realizing I had PPD....I’ve wrote about that.

No, we were discussing the what comes next. You see, once you admit you need help (which is a very hard step) and see a doctor....it doesn’t just magically go away. Oh...how I wish it did.

In all reality, it becomes a daily struggle that you need to work through. You need to learn new coping mechanisms and figure out what triggers you.

But you have to begin somewhere....

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor and by no means am I a psychiatric professional. I do not attempt to in any way claim expertise on the matter or suggest that a person use my words as a means of therapy. This is merely my experience and what helped me.

Because I'll Always Be....

I read something like this on someone elses blog last week and cannot remember WHO it was! So whoever posted this first....if you read this (or you know WHO it was) leave a link in the comments and I’ll update this post to highlight your loveliness!

I wrote in Cheers to the Americans about my profound revelation that I’ll always be American. There are a few other things that will always be about me!

American Proud: Cheers to the Red, White, and Blue

I will always be American.

It may seem strange to you to hear someone say that. It’s kind of like a umm...duh type of statement. But for me, well, this statement took a while to come out of my mouth.

I talk quite a bit about missing home. I talk about the things from America that I love and the family and friends I’ve left behind.

Never do I want these topics to make it seem like I do not love my life in South Africa. I do. I absolutely do.

And most of all, I don’t want the fact that I still and will always call America home to be a deterrent to the fact that South Africa is my home as well.

Yep, I have two homes. I’m pretty blessed.

A really happy award!

Last week I was very surprised to open my email and see that a friend had blessed me with a Sunshine Blogger Award! It was such an uplifting email to receive. This is one reason I love the blogging community.

When Baby Stands...

This is a post I actually wrote over two years back....long before I ever began to blog. I wrote it as a journal entry and shared it on a baby website. I thought as I begin the transition into walking with LJ....I'd share my first reactions via Lil Mister with all of you!

Love you for you

Then he heard a voice
Somewhere deep inside
And it said...
I know you've murdered
And I know you have lied
But I've watched you suffer
All of your life
And now that you'll listen
I'll tell you that I
I will love you for you
Not for what you have done
 or what you will become
I will love you for you
I will give the love
the love that you never knew

Weekend Recap

What were YOU doing this weekend?

Me....

I spent a weekend being Mama and Wifey and you know what? I loved every minute of it!

As with most Saturdays, the boys and I loaded up and headed to town early. We visited Papa, paid some bills and grabbed an ice cream cone!
They were amazingly well behaved and both took turns napping in the pram! We were so hot when we got home that I decided we needed to climb in the pool!

Sunday Social Flashback High School

1. What were you like in middle school and high school?
I was two completely different people between middle school and high school. I’m not sure what changed or when it did. But I was the typical teachers pet in middle school. I was on the dance team, first chair in orchestra and editor of the school newspaper. I was in all of the advanced classes and pulled straight A’s.
High school came and I made t

Saturday Funny W40

As we attempt to potty train Lil Mister again.....
We try to be very encouraging. We cheer for him and make a huge deal of it if he uses his potty! We also reward him if he doesn't have an accident all day in his pants.

One way we cheer is we always yell out, "Yay, Lil Mister potjie peepee! Lil Mister is a groet seun!" (Lil Mister peed in potty he's a big boy!)

Saturday morning, I get up and go to the bathroom. I always leave the door open when I'm home alone with the boys. All of the sudden when I flush, Lil Mister comes running full speed into the bathroom! He pushes the door beyond open and screams at the top of his lungs,

"YAY MOMMY POTJIE PEEPEE! MOMMY, JY GROET SEUN!"

And boy, was he happy for mommy!

We're so busy I hope you didn't miss....

Thankyoudiva.com

Wow. As I look back, I almost can't believe another week has gone. Time is so precious
and each passing day I come to realize this more and more!

I keep telling friends and family how much I am missing my boys during the day at work and how the hours seem too long. It seems like each day when I get home....they're doing something new. Hubby even commented after his weekend away (I mean he was gone 2 days peeps!) that it seemed like the boys were bigger!
