Organized Chaos

Back to work...back to work...oh jerk!

That's right...I've gone back to work!
I can't believe the time went so quickly.
I started back February 4 and my LJ turned 8 weeks on the 6th.
It seems like I didn't have enough time at home. I battled so much with the idea of returning. I had agreed before I left for maternity leave that I'd be back the first week in February and I'm not one to go back on my word.
I've been blessed in that I found an amazing girl to work in the house while I'm away. LJ now stays at home with her rather than going to creche so early and as an added bonus...my house is clean and ironing is done EVERYDAY! Call me spoilt...I call in job creation! ;-)
LJ really does like her and is amazing for her. He never cries and is all smiles when I get home in the afternoons!
Lil Mister started a new school and I'm in heaven with it. The teacher is so amazing, easy to talk to and very honest. In his first week they already had projects up that they'd done. As well as, we got this cool little binder. About half the normal size. Each week they put a note in with the learning theme and what the kids will be doing. All communication is through the book. I love it!
He is doing great and adjsuted within the first week! I'm so proud of him!
To be honest, it's good for me to have the break as well. I love my children but as I've stated before...I'm not so much good at the whole stay at home thing.
I felt like I was becoming lost in a dark abyss.
So I'd like to share with you what I learnt in my first week back at work!!!
1) My co-workers do not find it amusing that I say 'shoo-shoo coffee is shoo-shoo' when placing their coffee at their desks.
2) No one needs to hold my hand while sitting on the potty....apparently they are big enough not to fall in.
3) It is inappropriate behavior to eat the left overs from their lunches because...well food just doesn't need to go waste. In society, we eat on our own plates.
4) Discussing how the characters in Barney get into their costumes is not considered intelligent conversation.
5) I do not need to verbalize all of my actions so that nothing unexpected is happening. Adults do not throw tantrums at the unknown (okay not normally!) and therefore continuously stating "I'm just going to the back office" or "I'm going pee-pee I can still hear you" are unnecessary and typically unwelcome.
6) Slippers and yoga pants do not qualify as having gotten dressed for the day.
7) Asking my co-workers at 30 minute intervals if they need to use the potty is not only inappropriate but annoying.
8) We listen to adult music and singing along to the theme of Lollos that is playing in my head is invasion of their sanity.
9) They do not need me to access the color of their snot for infection. They apparently blow their noses and discard of it.
10) I have spent way too much time perusing the internet in search of childrens activities......a glass of wine at 2pm is no longer acceptable :-/

Hehe okay but really here is what I looked like my first day back!

Very professional right!!

I walked into this.....
And that was only half the filing!

So...I did this...
And this....
;-)

I eventually was caught up on the filing by Thursday. And I've spent my time since then catching up on the debitors! We have a month until our year end and then I start afresh....so until then! ENJOY! ;-)

So....I have an obsession with planners, journals, logs, and goals. I feel the insanity of it all is what keeps me sane! With all that I do (and don't do!), it's a great idea if I share some of my weekly goals with you and how I 'attack' them in my daily life. Goals are the structure to my life!
{3 for 5}
1) 4x Runs and 4x Cross Training I didn't do to terrible though. I got in 3 runs and 2 cross training sessions. I would have done better but our Ma came to visit the weekend and therefore I didn't run all weekend! :-/
2) Drink 6x glasses of water Score! And I feel better for having done this. My skin is looking great too!
3) Clean and prep at night! I did this all but one night. I've started this week off good and was on the right track this morning! ;-)
4) Make cookies with Lil Mister. We had so much fun and can't wait to post all about it!
5) Organize kids closets I'm so glad this is done! I feel relieved and have a small project in the house each day to do!
1) 4x Runs and 4x Cross Training
I've decided to keep this goal another week. I will not change a goal until I meet it 100%!!
I need to focus on my physical health. I LOVE running. If you didn't know that, clickity click that little tabby in the balloon over there >>>>>>>that says running! I have to plan to get this in with two kids and a ful time job, but it is well worth it!
2) Take one night for myself!
For a lot of people it would seem with my running that I am spending time focused on me. However, as much as that hour a day is my time it is a different aspect. This night for myself is after the kids have gone to bed and the house is picked up. I just need to crawl into a hot bubble bath, grab a magazine and unwind. Paint my toes when I'm not rushing and let my body relax. It is for the sanity of my entire family!
3) Clean and prep at night!
I've decided to keep this goal another week. I will not change a goal until I meet it 100%!!
By the time Lil Mister and LJ are asleep, I'm ready to pass out on the couch. However, this ruins my mornings as then I am pressed for time with so much to do and end up not running! So rather I've rallied Hubby Dearest in to help me and we are doing everything at night. Together it takes 30-40 minutes. This is cleaning the kitchen, making lunches, packing school bags, laying out clothes, and ensuring all toys are packed away! It is actually a lot to do if you saw my house by 8 pm!
4) Do a devotion every morning.
I used to be very good about my daily devotionals. But during my maternity leave I wasn't checking my emails as regular and fell behind. I need to get back to spending that time with God everyday at the beginning of the day.
5) Establish a morning routine to fit everything in.
Winter is quickly approaching here and it will be getting lighter later. I need to soak up the opportunity to run in the am while I still can. I need to establish LJ into a feeding routine that allows me to get out the door in the morning. Come winter, I will crosstrain in the morning and run in the afternoons. LJ is eating at my run time right now so I need to get him moved back by about an hour!

So, there you have it! Those are MY goals for the week ahead!
What about you?! What are you setting out to do?!
Link up and let us know!

By the way, if you decided to link up with us today (THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!) we just ask that you follow good 'blogging manners' & do the following itty bitty things....

MHO Monday Mingle

mondaymingle

Welcome back to the Monday Mingle!
Hosted by

This Week's Theme: KIDS

This Week's Questions:

1. Do you have any kids? If so, how many? If not, how many do you want or do you want any?
I have 2! A two year old and a 2 month old! And we are done!
2. What is the cutest thing you've ever heard a kid say?
Lil Mister was sitting on our brothers bike and says to me "passop mama, ek ry!" (translate watch out mama, I'm driving!)
3. What is your favorite memory as a kid, if you could pick one?
Staying up late on weekends with my uncles while they had band practice. That and how during the summer the whole neighborhood hung out together. We lived on a dead end street and spent morning until night together. We were about 20 kids from 3 years old to 15 years old. We played sports, hide and seek, and went to the pool. I loved always having friends.

4. As a kid, what was your favorite subject in school?
History. I love what it teaches us. I've been obsessed with the Middle Ages since I was in 6th grade and we built a papermache castle as tall as we were! That teacher was the best!
5. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Haha...what day of the week? At one point I wanted to be each of these sometimes more than one at a time...teacher, doctor, navy personnel, pilot, vet, secretary, dancer, coach, and a mom!

Okay, now it's your turn. Grab the button and questions and repost on your page!!! You don't have to answer the questions, you can just repost the button. Link your post up and mingle with other bloggers!!! No rules, just meet new people!

Fitness Friday {week 7}

Recap:
February 4, 2013-February 10,2013
Not to much was happening. I am proud to say that I got in 3 runs during this week and doubled my distance! It was great.
Pa measured the circle around our block that I like to loop quite often. It is exactly 800m. So that gives me a rough idea of where my km stand. Hubby Dearest and I will take a drive this weekend to measure the longer routes that I tend to frequent so that I can be more accurate.
As for now, time is still my main focus but I am happy to know what distances I am reaching. This will give me a more accurate fixture to go on once I start building distance.
Otherwise, things are pretty slow and I’m still struggling to get out in the morning. LJ wants to feed when it is time for me to be leaving! Therefore my runs cram into my evenings and unfortunately get lost some days!

Future outlook:
I’ve acquired a plan via Womens Health about getting yourself running 30 minutes in 30 days. You can check it out here for more details to how the plan works. I’ve incorporated this into my plans along with some strength training.
As I’ve said, these are my goals. Everything is subject to change based on how my mind and body copes. Instead of a strict day by day plan....I’ve listed my workouts as goals I want to achieve this week!
18 February 2013-24 February 2013
4x runs totalling a minimum of two hours. This week I will hit 30 minutes solid running. For a lot of you this isn’t a lot but for me just having had a child less than 3 months ago this is a really big deal! No breaks...just running!
4x cross training totalling a minimum of two hours! I’m not meeting this goal as of yet so I’m still working on it. It will continue to remain here until I reach it!

Wish me luck and stay tuned next week!

I never like you before. You tasted like wee in my mouth. To give credit where credit is due…I did taste you warm for the first time. When I moved to SA, they had none of my favorites. There you were calling my name on a shelf. Crisp, cool, refreshing, a step into my past…my Heineken.

TT- Pet Peeves

Jenn proposed a very interesting topic this week...pet peeves. I'm so excited to read what all the others say about this. Please scroll through and clickity click that Theme Thursday button to check out all the other lovelies that are participating...BUT WAIT...not until you read what I've wrote. Jeeze....how wude! ;-)

To say I was in culture shock when I first moved to South Africa is an understatement. I'm not sure if I was under-prepared, over-prepared, or completly mis-prepared.
I had studied a lot about this lovely country. I knew not to expect to see lions roaming the streets in Cape Town (unless they had just won the Curry Cup of course!) and that there were going to be lots of languages I didn't know.
I was aware that there was still a lot of racism and that we WOULD have indoor plumbing where Hubby Dearest lived (yes some places do not have this yet!).
I knew that if we got to go to a game park, I'd see lots of wild animals.
I knew that we could do grocery shopping, have cell phones, and banks. All in all...I figured it was going to be a lot like America.
Okay....I was wrong on SO many levels. But let's not dwell on that now.

 I SAID NOT TO DWELL!

Through the fog of jet lag, and the silence of not knowing what everyone is saying all the time, my eyes slowly began to open to what I'd gotten myself into!

We originally lived in the sunny area of Durban in a little town called Amanzimtoti. I loved it here and enjoyed waking up to the beach EVERYDAY.
Oh yea....that was our view!
We relaxed in the sun, ate some amazing food, and I got used to the foreign beer.
What I couldn't get used to, however, quickly became my biggest EVER pet peeve.
There are many wrong ways to state this so I am going to do it in the most appropriate way for where I currently reside. If you become offended....well then stop reading OR get off your high horse and realize we live in different societies!
The black women (yes I said it because it is a fact....white women in this country don't do this because of the cultural differences!) openly breastfeed their children in public. When I say openly, I mean as in they do not bother to cover themselves. You will be walking through a mall and a woman will sit down on a bench and pull out her breast and pop it in her kids mouth like it is a plastic bottle.
I am pro-choice and love that more and more women are returning to giving breastfeeding a try. But jeeze, I don't like boobs hanging out all over the place.
In the privacy of my bedroom (or house) when it is just my kids and Hubby and I; breastfeeding LJ is a beautiful thing I can do.
However, as I'm standing behind a counter taking your pizza order....umm...
Hello. (I'm not looking at your boobs). What can I get you today? (I'm...not...looking as I force my eyes up)......Regardless of sexual preference or gender I cannot see how the fack it is possible not to look at a boob when it is staring you in the face...I don't want to look but its just right there....
(Fack...I looked...did she see me look....dammit I looked again....oh bloody hell put the darn thing away already!)

This is where my pet peeve began. I cannot stand it if a woman breastfeeds in public without covering herself up.
If you know anything about South Africa though, you will know that rascism is still VERY strong here. Beyond what you can imagine until you live here.
It was in 2009 when I got my first management job at a restaurant. With years experience as a waitress, I was excited and ready to go for this new position. I'd only been living in SA for 8 months. I ventured out on my own and stepped across the steaming, frying, greasy threshold into the world of management...duh duh duh!
It was exciting. I took to it naturally because in all actuality I was just a glorified everybody else. I still picked up a table now and then....my tip was just usually better ;-) I spoke with the guests and could linger a little longer around a table or two. I enjoyed the sense that I was 'entertaining' my guests.
Until...oh the fateful night.
It was month end....and a Friday. We had a line stretching across the South Indian Ocean and a two hour wait. I was in the very front of house which meant in addition to my 5 waitrons and 20 tables to care for, I had the que and the que manager on my case and the cashier station. It was fack busy.
It was a Blue Bulls game....go figure. I couldn't even watch my team pummel Hubby Dearests!
Right there...in the middle of a dinner rush...it happens.
The woman at table Canyon 3 whips out her breast and pops it in. I quickly glance around. I see the older woman across from her smirk as she sips her wine and the man directly next to her gives sideways glances my way.
I break into a mini sweat. I know this is the culture but this is a restaurant people. My body clenches up as I quickly access the best approach. I decide I'm the manager and they will be reasonable people.
I calmly approach the table. I ask how everything is going this evening and assure them that their steaks will only be a few more minutes (oh yes...I did check their order before going to them!) and ask if they'd like any more to drink.
They are pleased and say no thank you. Then....
Oh the horror....
I quietly lean in to the woman and explain gently in the most professional way that her breastfeeding her child in the dining room might possibly make other guests uncomfortable and that if she'd like we have a wonderful sitting place in the rest rooms where she can feed comfortably and relaxed.....
I will save you all the gory details because this ended with my culture shocked shell in tears.
The husband, boyfriend, baby daddy uncle whoever he was screamed at me almost instantaneously. My GM came running. I was called a racist and a womanizer who was infringing on her rights.
There was swearing in Zulu and more racism talk. I was escorted to the back office and the guests were given their meal for free.
The next day...THE VERY NEXT FRACKIN DAY....head office phones. We've recieved a complaint on me. (As a manager this is the worst...it drops your monthly score and screws you for bonus!) The situation was explained to head office...but the best part....
The guests complained that the GM and I were talking about them in Afrikaans. Let me just clarify that after 4 years here I am only now speaking Afrikaans. At that point I couldn't understand two words put together in the language let alone carry on a DARN conversation in the language!....
Which leads me to my next pet peeve....RACISM and all its glory...
But I think we'll save that one for another day!

Did you like what you read....great!!! I'm so glad! Genuine...now clickity click that there button! Be a doll!! Do it once a day even!

{5 for Five} Linky!!

Okay...you're probably totally sick of linky's by now with me this week! But I've found so many great ones I just cannot decide! I'm going to try a few out and narrow them down over the next couple of weeks. But in light of my Fitness Fridays I thought this was a great one!

Monday is the day for {5 for Five} with Jenn and Jessica! This link up allows you to come and share your top 5 goals for the week ahead. Link up with us and share what you accomplished last week AND what goals you're setting for yourself the week ahead.  (Still need a little clarification? That's okay! Check out Jessica's summary of the link up here!)

So....I have an obsession with planners, journals, logs, and goals. I feel the insanity of it all is what keeps me sane! With all that I do (and don't do!), it's a great idea if I share some of my weekly goals with you and how I 'attack' them in my daily life. Goals are the structure to my life!

1) 4x Runs and 4x Cross Training
I need to focus on my physical health. I LOVE running. If you didn't know that, clickity click that little tabby in the balloon over there >>>>>>> that says running! I have to plan to get this in with two kids and a ful time job, but it is well worth it!
2) Drink 6x glasses of water a day
This seems so simple but jeeze I love my coffee. The more coffee I drink the less I drink water! So...I decided to drink a glass of water with every cup of coffee.

3) Clean and prep at night!
4) Make cookies with Lil Mister.
It seems silly to make this a goal but I must! If I don't plan to do something structured the afternoons will fall into nothing but free play. He needs some structured activities with me. This is a two day project as the dough must sit 24 hours!
5) Organize kids closets
Especially LJ! There is so much clothing, toys and blankets it looks like a ToysRUs explosion! It must be sorted....NOW!
